Installation in high temperatures

The maximum ambient and / or substrate temperature for the application of the majority of Triflex PMMA materials is approximately 35°C and the materials should not be stored in direct sunlight or in temperatures above 25°C. To accurately measure substrate temperature, we recommend a non-contact infrared measuring gun which are readily available from Triflex. Particular care should be taken with darker substrates which will be subject to higher solar gain, and warm roof build ups as the heat will not sink into the substrate.

The consequences of application when the temperature is too high are generally a sticky / tacky surface and a reduction in mechanical and physical properties. This is rare, however if this occurs please cease works immediately and contact our technical team on 01785 819119 option 4 or tech@triflex.co.uk.

Liquid waterproofing

Why should I use a liquid applied waterproofing system instead of a torch on felt membrane?

Triflex liquid applied waterproofing systems are totally cold applied and are a safe alternative torch on system. Due to this benefit, they can contribute towards lower insurance premiums for companies, including main contractors. In addition liquid applied waterproofing systems allow projects to be carried out at all times of the year without the need to remove occupants from the building.

Other benefits of cold liquid applied waterproofing:

  • Ideal for new build and refurbishment
  • Short site-closure periods due to minimal application processes and rapid curing even at low temperatures
  • Easy to maintain
  • Can be applied at temperatures down to -5°C
  • Proven, long-term durability

Find out more about the benefits of liquid waterproofing here.

Are there any British Standards relating to Liquid Applied Membranes?

The British Standard of relevance is BS 6229 “Code of Practice for Flat Roofs with Continuously Supported Coverings”. This is the main standard for all flat roofing and includes information on overall design and drainage. Reference should also be made to the LRWA Code of Practice for Roofs.

PMMA

What is PMMA?

PMMA stands for polymethyl methacrylate. It is a tough, transparent material with excellent resistance to ultraviolet radiation and weathering. It can be coloured, moulded, cut, drilled, and formed. These properties make it ideal for many applications including aeroplane windshields, skylights, automobile taillights, and outdoor signs.

You can find out more about PMMA here

How UV and weather-resistant is PMMA?

PMMA shows excellent resistance to aging and weathering, including natural UV radiation. Therefore it does not turn yellow or become brittle even after many years of outdoor exposure to various climates around the world.

What is the chemical resistance (compatibility) of PMMA?

PMMA is generally characterised for its exceptional chemical resistance. Parts made from PMMA are resistant to most inorganic chemicals, aliphatic hydrocarbons, cycloaliphatic compounds, fats and oils at room temperature, and also to diluted acids and concentrated solutions of most alkalis at temperatures up to 60 degrees Celsius.
